I would like to thank Ray Tapajna for his excellent response (Letters, Feb 24)
to Jim Strang's recent column.
In our fervor to replace George W Bush, Democrats are again at risk of making
the same mistake we did in electing Bill Clinton- whose backing of NAFTA has cost America millions of manufacturing
jobs- by voting fora candidate who does not oppose this disastrous trade agreement.
Ohio voters have a prime opportunity this year to help elect a Democrat
who will look out for the interests of American laborers; they should vote for Dennis Kucinich on March 2.
Democrats, particularly in Ohio, need to drop the anybody-but-Bush mentality.
If we don't then what is the point of voting? What is the point of replacing Bush with a candidate who will continue NAFTA,
which bleeds American jobs, and continues the occupation of Iraqi lives and bankrupts our country to the tune of more than
$1 billion per week?
Settling for second-best because we are told the best "can't win" is largely what
has gotten America in the mess it's in now, thanks to the likes of George W Bush and Bill Clinton, By making sure Dennis takes
Ohio, we can send a clear, strong message to the Democratic nominee- whoever he (or she) may be. What we want and need him
to do this election year is pledge to drop NAFTA and teh WTO and get us out of the mess in Iraq that Bush has got us into.
