One of the good things about changing your url address on bit.ly before you twitter I found out so far, is that it remains the same when you twit with the description too. Also if you use http://ping.fm to ping twitter and your social media sites at the same time - the bit.ly address remains the same with any added description providing it is not too long.
With http://linkbun.ch you can get one address for many links to pass on and at http://multiurl.com you can do the same with descriptive linkage instead of just links plus you can add a fold down tool at the top of any main site for this wonderful service.
