The attack on the middle class continues.......
What Comes Around, Goes Around and 2 + 2 still
= 4
The U.S. has gone through the most massive dislocation or workers with millions losing
their jobs due to free trade. It was only a matter of time for the Public Sector Government Workers Unions to take their place
in the degradation and the deflation of workers and labor..
They should have known it was coming in the late 1980s
when more than 700,000 steel workers and 400,000 auto workers lost their jobs. Soon after that more than a million workers
in the computer industry lost their jobs too. The PC Computer became the center of the class room and was said to be
the device that would re-invent the world. It did but being only a $200 to $400 device, it proved to only be able to reproduce
about the same in added value. Entry level jobs required computer know-how and with the computers
and components coming from the wage slave workers of the world, educators should have know there was not matching values for
their students to gain.
A vast new working poor class came knocking out the middle class production workers.
By 1998, about about 15 percent of the AFL-CIO union membership were private sector production workers while 50 percent were
public sector government workers. As time went by the teachers parking lots were filled with foreign made automobiles.
The teachers should have know that this did not add up and the balance in our economy was out of whack.
The retail
and service workers flooded the work place. You can see workers with many years of working experince, working at entry level
jobs. They took the jobs that were left. No one in the public sector seemed to care and just went on about their own
part of the deal. I drive past pickets infront of a big box store and I wonder how many public sector government
workers cross the picket lines to shop. Now they are finding out they too have shopped their way out of their jobs.
Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans revealed a vast unreported underclass living in a silent depression. It became apparent,
it was only an example of what was going on in most of our major cities. Teachers complained that parents were not coming
to school functions but they should have know why sooner. Both parents could not take off from work. Teachers and child
care workers in the school systems should have sounded an alarm when children came to school sick and many others were latch
key children who had to be home alone for the most part of the day.
Much of this was ignored by our society as
a whole including the public sector workers. Our Ray Tapajna Chronicles - http://tapsearch.com.tapartnews/ and http://tapseach.com/flatworld forecasted the coming of our economic crisis years ago and an education consultant commented about our articles about
communications by rank. Something was astray. See http://tapsearch.com/communications-by-rank
The main question of our time is - Who said we had to compete like this in a global economic
arena? The elder President Bush formulated the free trade programs. President Clinton, a Democrat and a Democrat controlled
congress passed Bush's free trade adgenda. At the same time we had Republican Conservatives like Rush
Limbaugh, Senator Dole and Congressman Gingrich backing President Clinton all the way in the passing of the unfair NAFTA and
GATT trade agreements. President Bush, the second , came and passed more and hid our economic crisis behind his pre-emptive
shock and awe wars. President Obama came and bailed out the big money interests and the free traders and put them back
in charge.
The media, the classrooms, the politcal arena and the pulpit remained silent about the core of our
economic crisis. It is no time to act surprised but to form some sort of new solidarity to end this madness. Again,
the first question to ask is - Who said we had to compete like this with one another for the same jobs in a
global economic arena ?
....And what happens after the public sector union workers step down
to the working poor class? What workers will be left in the middle class?
